Jean-Guy Lavigueur Of Quebec Loses Lottery Ticket And Stranger Returns It

Jean-Guy Lavigueur - Lost Lotto TicketWhat would you do if you lost a your wallet that contained a $7.6 million unclaimed lottery ticket? Do you think it would be returned if someone found it? OF COURSE IT WOULD! William Murphy already set the precedent.

In 1986, William Murphy found a lost wallet belonging to Jean-Guy Lavigueur. In it there were lottery tickets. He checked the tickets and found that one was a winner. So, he returned the wallet, belonging to Jean-Guy Lavigueur, but kept the tickets. The next day, William had a change of heart and went to return the tickets as well.

Jean-Guy Lavigueur couldn't believe that William Murphy returned a lottery ticket that was worth $7.6 million. So, he offered him a beer, as well as $1.27 million for his honesty; that's a one sixth share of the total winnings.

So the next time you lose a lottery ticket worth millions (I know, you have to actually win first), don't worry - The precedent has already been set; it will be returned!
