On August 10, 2005, John San Cartier won $52 million on Powerball with New Mexico Lottery. John went to Raley's Superstore in Albuquerque, New Mexico to buy some milk and a Powerball ticket. Lucky for him, it was the winning ticket!
John was driving his daughter to school one day, when he heard on the radio that someone had won the jackpot. So when he got home, he checked his ticket online and found that it was him!
John had served with the 58th Training Squadron at Kirtland Airforce Base in Albuquerque for 15 years prior to winning the lottery. Since winning the jackpot, he sought to maintain his privacy, even disconnected his phone for a while after the news of his win broke.
