Leah Sumray Wins £1m Then Spends 14 Days In Jail The Following Year

Leah Sumray - Time In JailIn October of 2007, Leah Sumray won £1m ($1,440,233 USD) on an instant scratchcard lotto ticket from UK's National Lottery.

At the time of her win, Leah was 21 years old and living in St Ives, Cornwall. She was working at a fish and chips restaurant and vowed that she would remain working there. In her own words, "I love working at the fish and chip shop. It might not be glamorous but it is sociable and always a laugh. I'll splash out on a few things and enjoy myself but there's no way I'll give up my job."

When she won, Leah said she would take her parents, two brothers, and sister on a Caribean cruise, as well as a shopping spree in New York and Miami.

But as you might know, not all lottery winners have happy endings, including Leah Sumray. Leah was arrested in January of 2008 for failing to show up for a witness summons to give evidence in court. She went on vacation when she was supposed to be in Truro Crown Court in Cornwall to give evidence for the prosecution of a man on assault charges. She was arrested at the airport when she came back from her holidays. Leah spent 14 days in jail.
