In March of 2009, George Gentile won $1 million playing New York Lotto's instant Poker scratch lottery game. As his daughter put it, "This could not happen to a more deserving person." He definitely deserves it! George Gentile is father to eleven children: 9 daughters and two sons. It must have cost a fortune to raise them. Now he gets some money for himself. Way to go!
At the time of the win, George was 81 years old and a retired factory foreman and a Korean war vet. He lived in Middletown in Orange County, New York. Prior to his win, there were two other big winners in Orange in the previous few weeks. He only purchased his ticket because a friend of his daughter's, Edward Cruz, scratched a winning $1 million instant Poker ticket while at her house. How ironic!
Local news and media doesn't often report on instant lotto winners, probably because it's more interesting to report on the humungous winners like Eric Kyle and Paul Rosenau. But there are plenty of them like Mike McGivern, Dwayne Pierce, Colonel Barnard, Hieu Tran, and Teresa Blevins.
