Raju Patil can now walk the streets of Mumbai, India as a Crorepati; he is no longer just a common man. That's because he won 53,700,000 ($1,041,707 USD) Indian Rupees in Thursday Super Lotto! But he will never forgot what it was like to be just another common man. Prior to winning the lottery, Raju was the sole breadwinner of a family of eight - six adults and two children; he was a chauffeur of an executive at a multi-national corporation.
Raju Patil usually uses astrology and mathematical calculations to choose his lottery numbers. But on the occasion that he won, he actually used a quick pick random set of numbers. Lucky guy!
A "crorepati" is a term used in India to refer to someone who is worth more than 1 crore (10 million Indian Rupees); it is the Indian equivalent of a millionaire in, say, North America.
Raju Patil isn't the first Indian crorepati that we've covered here. Also check out Sanjay Arora, Tahir Mullick, and Pannalal Ananda Sonawane; they've all won the lottery in India.
