On St. Patrick's Day of 2009, Oregon Lottery had a special St. Patrick's Day Raffle which featured 1,011 cash prizes, including a top prize of $1 million. All prizes were guaranteed to be won, so it was quite a popular game. The game costed $10 to play and there were a limited number of tickets sold, which made the odds relatively good.
The game featured 3 prizes. There was one grand prize of $1 million and had odds of winning set at 1 in 250,000. There were 10 second prizes of $20,000 and the odds of winning that were set at 1 in 25,000. The last prize was 1,000 prizes of $100 and the odds of winning that were set at 1 in 250. As you can probably calculate, only 250,000 tickets were sold.
The winner of the $1 million grand prize was Chuck Mickes. On March 17, 2009 Chuck found out that he had the winning ticket. The next day, March 18, was his birthday; he celebrated it with his family. Two days after his birthday, he took his family to the Salem, Oregon prize center to collect his winnings.
We're betting this was Chuck Mickes' best birthday ever!
