Joanne Gilbert - Lottery Winner Won't Quit Her Job At Llanfrechfa Grange Hospital

Joanne Gilbert - Dirty Sheet CleanerMost people dream of winning the lottery so that they could quit their jobs. But, have you ever talked to someone that said they wouldn't quit their job even if they hit a big lotto jackpot? You probably thought they were lying. But maybe not. Take Joanne Gilbert, for example. Her job involves cleaning dirty sheets at Llanfrechfa Grange Hospital in Cwmbran, Gwent, UK. You'd think that she'd be the first to quit her job if she won the lottery. After all, the job pays just £6 an hour. But she wouldn't quit.

Joanne Gilbert actually did win the lottery. £1.1million ($1,823,228 USD) in 2007. She was sick and off work when she hit the jackpot. Her co-workers never expected to see her again. But, as sonn as she was well enough to get back to work, she went back.

Perhaps you'd think that was strange. But, if you looked at her situation, you'd understand. Joanne Gilbert had struggled with money her entire life. She had a son when she was just 16 years old and had to find ways to make ends meet. She worked at Llanfrechfa Grange Hospital for 21 years prior to winning the lottery. That was her life and that was normal for her. When she won the lottery, she just wanted her life to stay normal. So, she didn't quit her job because that would have been too big of a change for her. She liked her life as it was and didn't want to change.

One thing that she did do with her money though was go on some vacations. She took her son and his girlfriend on a trip to Turkey and a trip to Disneyland in Florida (It had always been her lifelong dream to visit The United States of America and she never had the opportunity to do so before).
