Imagine walking into a corner store, buying a $5 intant scratch lotto ticket, and walking out with $1 million. It happened to Wayne Johnson of Oshawa, Ontario. In May of 2009, he walked into the Shopper's Drug Mart pharmacy and bought a $5 Ontario Instant Millions ticket. He scratched it and found that he was the winner of $1 million! The odds of winning the million dollar jackpot on the game is slightly more than 1-in-1-million.
At the time of his win, Wayne Johnson was 53 years old, living in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, and an was an employee of Ontario Power Generation. And, because he is Canadian, unlike his American counterparts, his $1 million win is completely tax-free.
Wayne Johnson was really surpised at the win and couldn't believe it. He said, however, that it felt a lot more real when he went in to the prize office and got his cheque (By the way, that's another good thing about Canadian lotteries - You walk in to the prize office to make a claim and you walk out a few hours later with the money; sometimes, American lottery winnings take weeks to process.). With his winnings, Wayne said that he plans to buy a new car and, also, to do some traveling.
