Karen Petrasek actually didn't know how much she won until she visited Arizona Lottery's office to claim her money. That's where she found out that her winning ticket was worth $1.3 million. When she found out she commented that it sure takes the stress out of the future. Smart lady!
At the time of her win in June of 2008, Karen Petrasek lived in Dessert Hills, Arizona and had a career as an accountant. She also owned two thoroughbred horses. She claimed to be a regular lottery player. As an accountant, she should have known not to play the lottery because the odds of her ever winning are so astronomical... Actually, never mind that last statement.
With the money that she won playing The Pick, Karen Petrasek planned to buy a new truck and then go to her financial advisor to discuss what to do with the rest.
