What would you do if you won $133 million in the Mega Millions lottery? I know what I would do... I'd be at the lottery office at 9 am the next morning, waiting for it to open, after a sleepless night. I'd want my money right away. But not Aubrey Boyce. He won $133 million. He waited 3 weeks to make his claim. Why? He hates the limelight.
Aubrey Boyce won the $133 million Mega Millions jackpot on the July 7, 2009 draw. He waited three weeks to claim his money. He came in on July 28, 2009.
Aubrey Boyce doesn't like the limelight and he knew that New York Lottery required that big winners to hold a media conference for newspapers and reporters. He did the media conference, as required, but kept his answers to questions short and sweet. He explained that he wasn't a flashy type of guy and wouldn't be buying anything fancy - That means no Rolls Royces or Mercedes'. He was going to share a lot of it with his family, though.
At the time of his win, Aubrey was living in an apartment in Kew Gardens, Queens, NY. He made a living as collections agent for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, where he earned a salary of $64,000 per year. With his win, he planned to quit his job and relax. Actually, after claiming the money, he said that he wanted to get on a plane to somewhere warm and wanted to do it fast.
