Barry Shell had some bad luck on Monday July 21st, 2009. He was arrested by police for an outstanding warrant of failing to appear (He failed to show up for a 2003 court date), theft under $5000, and possession of property obtained by crime. He spent the night in jail and was, then, released on $1500 bail. Talk about bad luck!
But how did he get caught six years later? Well, Barry Shell won $4,377,298 in the Lotto 6/49 jackpot in the July 18, 2009 draw. He was at the Toronto lottery headquarters of OLG first thing on Monday to claim his money. Little did he know, the lottery corporation does a thorough investigation before they pay out big money. Flags were raised and lottery officials called the police. They arrested Barry right outside Toronto's lottery prize office after he got his money.
Oh well, at least he got his money. Sure, Barry Shell might be a criminal, but at least he's not too bad; he didn't kill anybody.
Anyway, when he picked up his millions, Barry Shell said that he didn't have any immediate plans. It's quite ironic that the police, though, had immediate plans for him.
Congratulations to Barry Shell on his good lu... I mean... bad luck. Whatever. Congratulations.
